Skaņu Mežs announces sound art open call

deadline on

Riga, Latvia's Skaņu Mežs festival for experimental music is inviting artists to participate in an open call as part of the tekhnē sound art project, co-funded by the European Union. Artists will have their travel expenses, accommodation, technical costs covered, and will also receive a fee.

Sound art project tekhnē delves into technology's diverse nature, examining its potential for both empowerment and disruption.

Skaņu Mežs is now accepting applications for an artistic residency in Riga, lasting up to two weeks. Participants will be asked to create sound-based artworks that creatively examine the role of technology. Skaņu Mežs and tekhnē seek pieces that are versatile enough to be performed live and reimagined as sound installations for public exhibition. They should be made ready within said 1-2 week period for presentation thereafter.

Submissions are open until April 8, with residency taking place in September and presentation scheduled from late September to mid-October as part of Skaņu Mežs festival 2024.

tekhnē is an explorative venture that bridges sound, technology, and art in new and meaningful ways.

Please note that at this stage, we are primarily seeking ideas from applicants. Once the selection process is complete and we have chosen the ideas we wish to pursue, we will then discuss them in more detail, including their realization and budget requirements.

Selected applicants will be contacted a few weeks after the application deadline.
