TRAFO 2024
TRAFO will host three art residencies in 2024.
The first creative residents will be pianist Nicoletta Favari and percussionist Christopher Salvito, working together as Passpartout Duo. Their work investigates the way in which we listen to and connect with sound. Reassessing the tools they use to create their music, the group is continually developing a specialized and evolving ecosystem of handmade musical instruments that have ranged from analog electronic circuits and conventional percussion, to room-size textile installations and found objects. At TRAFO, they will collaborate with local community and art students on a site-specific textile installation, created during open workshops held on April 22 and 23, 2024. The residency program also features Passepartout Duo’s concert on April 17, 2024. The artists will stay at TRAFO from April 7 until April 24, 2024.
From May 4 until May 25, 2024, TRAFO will host American artist Jenny Gräf. Currently based in Copenhagen, the sound artist and educator specializees in tactile porcelain speaker-instruments. Her recent works deal with the multi-sensory aspects of listening and how relations and ecologies can be sensed and enacted. At TRAFO, she will be offered space to work along with an opportunity to showcase her work publicly during her term as a resident. From May 23 until August 4, 2024, TRAFO will present Jenny Gräf’s solo show titled “Out of Senses. Come to Your Senses”. Curated by Zorka Wollny, the exhibition will be a 3-month ”living” installation, drawing on research on the cultural constructs of senses. The sonic is the entry point into an inquiry on what it means to listen and to sound. Jenny Gräf will present two performances during the exhibition run. One will be held on June 8, 2024 and the other one on the occasion of the show finissage. The program of the residency will feature open workshops for art students on May 13 and 14, 2024.
The last 2024 creative resident will be German artist Ruben Rübe (based in Taiwan). He will stay in Szczecin from June 3 until June 24, 2024. He will focus on developing the new series of sound objects, sharing his knowledge with students and the local community. His residency will involve open workshops held on June 10 and 11, 2024 as well as Artist Talk and performance.
