CTM 2025 workshop: Psychology of Light–Basics

Berlin Germany
Morphine Raum, Köpenicker Straße 147, Hinterhof, 1. Etage, 10997 Berlin

A2A Transmission workshop with: Grinderteeth (SE/DE)

The workshop is an introduction to light and working with light as a creative tool within the realm of music, with the aim to expand the possibilities of visual expressions in a pre-existing artistic practice.

The session includes an introduction into the basics of lights, including tools and technologies, terminology, different types of light structures, softwares and their possibilities, as well as how to communicate artistic needs and wishes with light technicians for live performance in a professional setting. You will learn how to write a light rider and cue list that easily communicates your ideas and wishes for your live performance, concerts or DJ-Sets, with a solid enough starting point to work independently within the subject.

We will also dive deeper into the psychology of lighting, and how the use of lights, gradients, contrasts, and colours can drastically influence our lives, ranging from our home spaces to artist practices and expression. As an extra bonus, Veslemoy will offer a few insider tips and recommendations on what it's like to work with lighting as an independent artist, and how to set yourself up as a freelancer within the industry.

This workshop is open to all levels, with no prior skills required.
