Erik Alalooga: "The Random Light Orchestra"
Tinkered and composed by Erik Alalooga. Conducted live by self-invented Analog Random Generators operated by the feedback dialogue of blinking light bulb and twilight switch.
Erik Alalooga is a hopeless machine-addict and analog-junkie. No matter what he starts to do or whatever he touches, the result is always a machine. Performing with self-made-low-tech-sound-machines can be seen as an anti-progress manifesto. It makes no attempt to participate in the technological race. It glorifies diletantism. His machinery has meaning only in the context of a particular artpiece, making no sense elsewhere. Musical symptoms can be described as psychedelic noise, pseudoshamanism, neo-industrial, using weird mechanical instruments. As a paradox, Alalooga managed to achieve a doctoral degree in developing a method of creating shitty sound-machines.
Riga’s experimental music festival Skaņu Mežs 2026 will take place on October 9–10 at Hanzas Perons (16A Hanzas Street). The installation will be exhibited at the venue on both days of the festival.
