Leif Elggren: Music (sound) and a different kind of presence

Riga Latvia

October 9, 14:00, Art Academy of Latvia, building K2

Leif Elggren is a writer, visual artist, art book publisher, stage performer, and composer based in Stockholm, Sweden. His varied and prolific output often features subtle absurdities, the theme of dreams, and social hierarchies turned upside-down. His 2005 text "Genealogy" (Firework Edition) is a kind of artistic manifesto or poetic programme in which he outlines the themes that run through his entire oeuvre. This text will serve as the point of departure for his lecture — in which Elggren will invite the audience to reflect on the suspension of time and space, on the future, and on the possibility of moving freely along all coordinates simultaneously; on the realization that everything is impossible, yet lies open and accessible before each and every one of us; on miracles, on the inevitable desire to dominate the world, on violence, and on death as a lifelong friendship.

In 1988, together with Kent Tankred, he formed the duo "The Sons of God", which was a tribute to Elggren's late father. That same year, he released his debut solo album "LP, Flown Over by an Old King". Together with Carl Michael von Hausswolff, he is one of the rulers of the self-proclaimed Kingdoms of Elgaland-Vargaland.
